Someone at work has their 09 A4 for sale, I was reading what had been done on it. The owner had the pistons replaced at 100,000km. Why would she need this done at such a low KM? Would there of been a oil consumption issue? BTW She says she paid $10k, seems a bit much.

If it was oil consumption surely the rings would just be replaced? I’d keep away from a car that had such serious work at low mileage.

I agree, I am just curious why. And 10k seems a bit much for a 4 banger

Stripping an engine with labour could easily hit that likes. I assume while it’s apart they change the bearings, most of the gaskets, timing chain, guides etc etc. Engine work is expensive especially at main dealers.

If the engine wasn’t broken in properly, there could have been a lot of blow-by. Plus, many owners don’t know the difference between changing pistons and changing piston rings.

One other thing. This was the beginning of TFSI or Direct Injection, right? I believe there were significant carbon build-up issues. This could be a root cause of some serious engine work that would have been covered at 100k/km or 60k miles and discovered during the normal maintenance at that interval (timing belt, right?)

I guess when you pay 50k for the vehicle, 10k isn’t that bad...

True.

I’m not sure, I don’t know much about Audis to be honest. I doubt a car this new takes a timing belt though. 60k is probably plugs, etc.

Probably was driven way too hard during the break in period, and some shit happened.
